WASHINGTON — Parents are being warned to immediately take certain Cat & Jack sandals away from children after Target recalled approximately 211,000 pairs because decorative pearls can fall off and become a dangerous choking hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the nationwide recall Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Federal safety officials warned that the detachable plastic pearls could cause serious injury or death if swallowed by a young child.
Target has received 23 reports of pearls falling off the sandals. No injuries have been reported.
The recall involves tan Cat & Jack children’s sandals featuring two raffia straps, gold-colored buckles and decorative plastic pearls.
The Cat & Jack brand name is printed on the sole and bottom of the affected shoes.
The sandals were sold in children’s sizes 5T through 12T.
Parents and caregivers should stop allowing children to wear the sandals immediately and place them somewhere children cannot reach them.
The recalled footwear was sold at Target stores nationwide and through Target’s website from January through May 2026. The sandals cost approximately $20.
Customers are eligible for a full refund.
The shoes may be returned to any Target location. Customers may also contact Target to receive a prepaid shipping label and return the recalled sandals by mail.
Consumers can reach Target at 800-591-3869 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time every day. Recall information is also available through the product-recall section of Target’s website.
The sandals were manufactured in Cambodia and imported by Target, which is based in Minneapolis.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission assigned the action recall number 26-629.
