Jay Dean Schaub, 66, of Grafton, remembered for his free spirit, hard work and devotion to family

GRAFTON — Jay Dean Schaub, 66, of Grafton, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital — Saint Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota. A short memorial service will be held from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Hoff Celebrations — Sites Memorial Chapel, 1211 10th Street South in Northwood.

GRAFTON — Jay Dean Schaub, 66, of Grafton, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital — Saint Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Jay was born Oct. 2, 1959, in Mason City, the son of Ellis and Edna Walk Schaub. He was the youngest of three children and grew up on the family farm near Grafton.

He graduated from St. Ansgar High School and continued his education at North Iowa Area Community College, where he earned an associate degree.

According to his obituary, Jay helped care for his father following the death of his mother while also working nights.

Jay held several jobs during his career, including work in farming, at Conagra and at Ventura Foods. His obituary reflects a dependable and hardworking man who remained closely connected to his family and the Grafton community.

He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton.

Jay enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with relatives and friends. According to his obituary, he liked to live life “wild and free,” embracing the people and experiences that brought him happiness.

Jay is survived by his brothers, Lynn Schaub and his wife, Sharon, of Northwood, and Curt Schaub and his wife, Julie, of Northwood; nephews Eric Schaub and his wife, Angie, Brent Schaub and his wife, Nina, and Michael Schaub and his wife, Elizabeth; and great-nieces and great-nephews Alex, Zac, Oliver, Gus, Gemma, Willa, Riley, Emersyn and Kamdyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Edna Schaub.

A short memorial service will be held from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Hoff Celebrations — Sites Memorial Chapel, 1211 10th Street South in Northwood.

Visitation will immediately follow from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A private interment will be held at Grafton Cemetery in Grafton.

Memorial contributions are preferred to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton.
