CLIVE — After allegedly opening fire upon an occupied car in this quiet, upscale suburban Iowa park, a suspect has been arrested on an attempted murder charge more than a month after a late-night party left two young victims wounded.

Clive police arrested 21-year-old Abdalla Hasan (pictured at top) of Des Moines on Tuesday afternoon, July 14, 2026, in connection with the June 4 shooting at Campbell Park, located at 12385 Woodlands Parkway.

Hasan has been charged with one count of attempted murder, a Class B felony. He was booked at the Clive Jail and then transported to the Polk County Jail to be held for arraignment.

The shooting occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. June 4 after a large group of young adults and juveniles gathered for a party at the park that had been promoted through social media.

Investigators said an altercation broke out during the gathering. Police allege Hasan produced a handgun and fired multiple shots into a car occupied by 18-year-old Jaivon Jefferson of Des Moines and a 17-year-old girl.

Both victims were struck by gunfire.

Jefferson suffered significant injuries and remained hospitalized for an extended period. The female victim was also hospitalized. Police said both victims have since been treated and released.

North Iowa Today previously reported that the victims were shot at close range while seated inside the passenger car. The girl was struck in the leg, while the male victim was wounded in the hand and abdomen.

Clive Police Chief Mark Rehberg said the arrest followed a lengthy investigation that moved forward after people with information about the shooting finally came forward.

“This has been a long investigation, and it took the courage of others to finally come forward and provide information on what had occurred,” Rehberg said.

The chief praised detectives for continuing to search for witnesses and leads throughout the investigation.

“At no time did the detectives working this case give up or stop searching for witnesses and leads,” Rehberg said. “As we know, there is always someone who sees something critical. That was what it took for this case to progress into an arrest today.”

Investigators are continuing to follow additional leads, and police said more charges could be filed as the investigation develops.

The Polk County Attorney’s Office assisted the Clive Police Department with the case.

An arrest is merely an accusation. Hasan is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
