CLIVE — Two young people were hospitalized after a late-night shooting at a suburban Iowa park, and police say another male involved in the incident later contacted authorities and turned himself in.

The shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. on June 4, 2026, at Campbell Park, located at 12385 Woodlands Parkway in Clive.

According to Clive Police Chief Mark Rehberg, two victims were shot at close range while sitting inside a passenger car. A 17-year-old female was struck in the leg, while an 18-year-old male was hit in the hand and abdomen.

Both victims were taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Police said a short time after the shooting, another male involved in the incident contacted law enforcement and said he wanted to turn himself in. Officers responded to a residence in Des Moines, where the male was detained as part of the investigation.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims or the detained male. Police also have not announced criminal charges.

Investigators identified a crime scene at Campbell Park, and police said a search warrant was being issued for a vehicle connected to the case.

Despite the gunfire, police said there is no ongoing threat to the community, and Campbell Park remains open.

The case remains under investigation. The Clive Police Department is being assisted by Des Moines police and the Polk County Attorney’s Office.
