Harold F. Kock, 81, of Greene, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Greene is caring for Harold and his family.

Harold Frederick Kock was born March 14, 1943, in Charles City, to Lester Harold and Esther Pearl (Bowen) Kock. He graduated from Rudd Rockford Marble Rock High School and furthered his education at Automotive Trade School in Omaha. Harold then moved to Greene and was united in marriage to Mary Louise Wells on October 16, 1965, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene.

Harold worked as an auto mechanic, starting his career at Barth Chevrolet, then spending 11 years working at Majewski Texaco in Greene. After that, he partnered up with Ralph Litterer and together they owned and operated H & R Co-op. Harold spent 7 years at Greene Rendering as a truck mechanic and plant manager until November 1982 when he opened Harold’s Repair. After retirement, Harold worked at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison, driving residents to and from appointments.

Harold was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He served on the Greene Fire Department for 26 years; 13 years as Fire Chief and was a founding member of the Greene Ambulance Service which he served as a volunteer EMT for many years. Harold also served on Greene City Council.

Harold enjoyed playing 500 with his wife, Mary, and his 500 Club. He enjoyed working on vehicles including his Model T that he and Mary could be seen driving around on weekends. Harold loved all things mechanical. He had an old McCormick single cylinder engine that he thought should be “put to use”, so he built a mobile belt driven ice-cream maker that he could travel around and make homemade ice-cream for local events.

Harold was well known to hang around local restaurants with his coffee buddies discussing current and local events, which of course was all “accurate and true.“

Harold is survived by his children: Tod (Lori) Kock of Greene, Twila Marie Kock of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Tara Marlene Kock of Greene; grandchildren: Emily (Mark Edwards) Egertson and Calvin (Chris) Kock; great-grandchildren: Kara and Kaili Egertson, Jacob Edwards and Lydia Kock; sisters: Kathryn (Joe) Gibbs of Garner and Marilyn Parcher of Nora Springs; brothers: Dean (Becky) Kock of Nora Springs and Steven (Carol) Kock of Sun City Center, Florida; brother-in-law Roger (Bonnie) Wells of Mason City; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; parents; in-laws Howard and Evelyn Wells; infant brother Philip Kock; and brothers-in-law Nick Parcher and Roger Hrubes.
