VENTURA – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources was called on May 12 because one private sewer hook up malfunctioned on East Lake street and seeped into the waters of Clear Lake. A source told NIT that “TP and ‘debris’ were evident” in the water.
When officials activated the city’s tornado alarm for the first test of the year, three of the four batteries in the alarm “blew up” or malfunctioned, causing the city to have to buy four new batteries and chargers since it was evident that something was going wrong in the old system. No cost estimate was provided.
The city of Ventura contracted for 3 years of emergency generator inspection with a 4 hour load test to be performed in the first year for an extra fee of over $700.
Many small items were heard at the latest council meeting. Public forum included complaints of bikers just blowing through stop signs and riding abreast instead of single file. The resident was encouraged to call the Clear Lake police non-emergency line as there is an officer in Ventura very often and likely to be on hand in less than 10 minutes to hear a complaint and hopefully able to act upon it.
Doug Nelson, a candidate for county board of supervisors, shared some news from other communities in the county. He’s been attending as many different city council meetings as possible to become better acquainted with each city’s unique passions and challenges.
There will be not be another Ventura council meeting this month because the regular scheduled meeting falls upon Memorial Day.
