MASON CITY – Law enforcement stopped a speeding vehicle on Interstate 35 Saturday evening and discovered an armed man with drugs.
An Iowa State Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Cory Michael Bown at the 187 mile marker of Interstate 35 in Cerro Gordo county Saturday at about 7:30 PM. Cerro Gordo county deputies were called to assist.
Officers arrested Bown on charges of speeding, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol, going armed with a concealed weapon (knife with blade 5-8 inches long) and prohibited acts.
Bown was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail where he is being held now on $1,000 bond.

Who knows how long the knife blade was? Obvious over 4 inches. Anything over that is ilegal especially for someone under 21. Dont think you would have a butcher knife in a sheath on your side. They do make folding blades with over 6 inch blade.
This kid better figure out quick if he’s cut out to be a thug. I did a triple take on the jail inventory when I saw him in there, just sure they’d coded the sex wrong as “M” not “F”. With a sweetie pie face like his he’s not going to enjoy prison stays very much.
Hmmm. If a man is in his own vehicle and has a knife on his person, how can this qualify as “going armed?” Aren’t cars considered akin to homes in regards to possession of weapons? If the man had a butcher knife he just purchased from Target would that be “going armed”. Were you trying to insinuate he was going armed with intent? That’s quite a different bag of chips. I think they found a knife on someone who had drugs and was speeding, and they tagged on a charge.
