CEDAR FALLS – For the first time in school history, a transgender student has been named homecoming queen at the University of Northern Iowa, the Waterloo Courier reported.
Steven Sanchez, 21, was born male but identifies as both male and female, the Des Moines Register said Friday. “Sanchez … endured relentless bullying” as a child, the newspaper said.
Response was mixed on the Courier’s Facebook page where it posted the story.
“Sickening,” Janet Givens of Des Moines posted.
“Totally Disgusting! No wonder the Country is so screwed up,” said Chris Rice a marine.
“Just shows that young people are growing up loving people for who they are not what they look like,” said Kerry Michelle Roeder of Guttenberg, Iowa. “Times are changing!”

I agree. It has always been the U of Iowa campus that was very open-minded, it is nice to see that UNI is on the same train.
i saw a story that two kids with downsyndrome won homecoming king and queen. thats awsome and what id consider being open minded. THis is not openminded its sick
