Judge Foy approves bond reduction for home invasion suspect

MASON CITY – On Friday, November 16th, District Court Judge Christopher C. Foy reduced the bond requirement against 27-year-old Joshua Alberto Rutledge of Mason City following an earlier bond reduction hearing.

Rutledge has been held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail since October 25th on a $50,000 cash or 10% surety bond originally set by Magistrate Rolf Aronsen. Judge Christopher C. Foy has now ordered a reduced bond requirement to $10,000 cash surety or lessor $1500 cash posted with the clerk of court in Rudledge’s name.

Rutledge is charged with two Class B forcible felony counts of 1st degree Robbery and 1st Degree Burglary following a Mason City home invasion. Schools in the area were on lock down until all four suspects were in custody and the shotgun reportedly used in the home invasion was recovered.

Rutledge remained in the Cerro Gordo County Jail as of Monday night on the reduced bond pending a pre-trial conference on December 18th.

Lawyers for Jason John Jones and Victoria Ann Carrot also charged with 1st degree Robbery and 1st Degree Burglary following the Mason City home invasion have also requested bond review hearings. Jones has a bond review hearing set for November 26th. Carrot has a bond review hearing set for December 11th.

If convicted of both forcible felonies the defendants could face up to 50 years in prison. Defendants convicted of forcible felonies under Iowa Law must serve a mandatory minimum of 70 percent of their sentence.
