ROCKWELL CITY — A Northern Iowa man has been convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse after a Calhoun County judge found him guilty in a case involving abuse that prosecutors say took place over a period of years.

Jason Michael Peed (pictured at top), 39, of Pomeroy, Iowa, was found guilty on May 29, 2026, in Iowa District Court for Calhoun County, according to a press release from Calhoun County Attorney Ben Smith.

The case was tried to the court on March 24, 2026, after Peed waived his right to a jury trial. District Court Judge Kurt J. Stoebe found Peed guilty on all three counts.

Continuous sexual abuse of a child is a Class “B” felony punishable by up to 50 years in prison. Each count of second-degree sexual abuse is also a Class “B” felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Prosecutors said all three offenses are forcible felonies, meaning a prison sentence is mandatory on each count. The court cannot suspend the sentence or grant probation. Each count also carries a mandatory minimum under Iowa law, requiring Peed to serve 70 percent of the sentence day-for-day before he becomes eligible for parole. Lifetime sex offender registration is also required.

At sentencing, the court will decide whether Peed’s prison terms will run at the same time or one after another. Prosecutors said he faces a prison sentence ranging from 50 years, with a 35-year mandatory minimum, to 100 years, with a 70-year mandatory minimum.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 31, 2026, at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City. Peed is being held in custody pending sentencing.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. The Calhoun County Attorney’s Office prosecuted it.
