OSAGE — Vera Marie Kasel, an Osage woman remembered for a lifetime of family devotion, faith, teaching, volunteer service and steady kindness to others, has died at age 90.

Kasel passed away on May 30, 2026.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with a rosary at 9:15 a.m.

Vera was born on October 27, 1935, in Havelock, Iowa, and grew up on the family farm with her brothers. From an early age, she helped with cooking, cleaning and sewing, responsibilities that reflected the caring and service-minded spirit she carried throughout her life.

She married John Kasel on October 13, 1962. The couple made their home in Osage, where they raised their family and built a life rooted in faith, work and community.

Before becoming a mother, Vera taught school in Clear Lake and Marble Rock. Later, she served as a substitute teacher at Sacred Heart School. She also volunteered in the school lunchroom, was active in the Sacred Heart Guild, served as a Girl Scout leader and helped John with Knights of Columbus activities.

In later years, Vera sold Avon and earned recognition as a member of the company’s President’s Club. During retirement, she and John remained active at the Osage Senior Center, where Vera often helped prepare meals. She enjoyed cards, especially 500, along with bingo and other activities that kept her connected with friends. She also remained a loyal supporter of the Osage Green Devils, attending high school activities even after her own children had graduated.

Vera is survived by her five children, Theresa Kasel, Mary Jo Vogl, Debra Kasel, Kevin Kasel and Benjamin Kasel; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Timothy; her husband, John; five brothers; her son-in-law; and other relatives.
