DES MOINES – An Iowa deputy was hurt in a crash over the weekend during a heavy snow event, and law enforcement say the incident could have been much worse.

During the winter storm on Saturday evening, around 5:00 PM, an Iowa deputy was assisting a motorist in the 8100 Blk of Hwy 141 in Polk county. While the deputy was out with the motorist, another vehicle lost control and struck the back of the deputy’s patrol car, authorities say.

The deputy was injured as a result of this accident. Fortunately, those injuries were not serious, but this could have been much worse, the sheriff’s office explained.

Law enforcement says this incident serves as a very important reminder to slow down and use caution this winter. The roadways become slick very quickly. It is not only for your safety, but also the safety of others.
