CLEAR LAKE – A large and enthusiastic crowd greeted 80’s and 90’s hair metal bands Firehouse and RATT Friday night at the historical Surf Ballroom.
Firehouse, which formed in 1989 in Charlotte, North Carolina, opened the show, playing hits like “Don’t Treat Me Bad” “Reach For The Sky” and “All She Wrote”. The band’s biggest album was its debut – Firehouse – in 1990 and it’s follow-up in 1992 – Hold Your Fire – was also a big success. Firehouse’s lead singer is CJ Snare.
The crowd was somewhat subdued and a little on the quiet side until the intermission when RATT was about to take the stage. RATT is edgier than Firehouse with more of a glam rock look and sound. The band had origins as early as 1976 in San Diego and lead the way in the 1980’s as the hair metal scene took shape. RATT’s lead singer is Stephen Pearcy, who left the band for a number of years before returning as the band continues to tour at small venues. RATT played their hits like “Round n Round” “You’re in Love” “Wanted Man” “You’re in Trouble” and “Way Cool Jr.”
The next show slated at the Surf is set for Sunday, July 28th. The Al Welsh Orchestra will take the stage. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The crowd was “quiet and somewhat subdued until intermission.”???? Are you serious?? Firehouse sounded outstanding and the crowd was far from quiet!!!! You must have been at a Barry Manilow concert in some other town!
I agree and Firehouse stole the show that night as it seemed that Stephen pearcy from Ratt had blown out his voice recently then maybe from too many shows or something . He made up for it last night when he returned to the surf and hot and outstanding show just under his name with Blas Elias on the drums!!
What a great show. Well worth the price of admission. My wife and I really enjoyed these two bands from yesteryear. Can’t wait for the next band to come to Clear Lake. Thanks for the photos and video to remember it by!
Any BIG hair and 80’s ladies or leotards? Miley Cyrus is bringing it back…bless her heart.
