Steve King may not live down anytime soon the controversial comments he made in recent days about immigrants to the U.S. from Mexico and elsewhere.
King is being dogged – no pun intended – by comments he made recently comparing immigrants to bird dogs, saying America has the “pick of the litter” when choosing who to let into the country. “They’re not all valedictorians,” King said.
King also went further in an interview with Newsmax, saying that Mexicans have calves “the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert” while they weigh just 130 pounds.
Comedy Central’s popular satirical host Stephen Colbert poked fun at the Iowa Congressman this week, showing snippets of video to his audience where King made his remarks. The audience booed King as soon as Colbert mentioned his name.
“Come on, we all say it behind closed doors… Mexicans have calves the size of cantaloupes,” Colbert joked. “Or honeydews, what have you, a breakfast fruit of some kind. A papaya or a particularly large grapefruit. The point is choosing the good ones.”
Colbert continued, saying “Los Latinos were offended by the immigrants as dogs analogy. Those people have such thin coats.”
