CLIVE – A man was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday morning at a busy intersection near Des Moines, authorities say.
On October 27, 2023, at 6:53 AM, Clive police and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the signalized intersection at Love’s Travel Stop, 11820 Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to a crash involving a motorcycle and a 2016 Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by 54-year-old Carlo Gonzalez of Des Moines. Arriving personnel found the rider of the 2015 BMW motorcycle had been thrown from the bike. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Clive officers were joined by the Urbandale Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol. The crash is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol. The crash remains under investigation. The identity of the person killed is Daytin Bernal, age 26, of Waukee, Iowa.
Traffic in the area was disrupted for about 2 hours while the scene was protected and an investigation began. Traffic flow has returned to normal.
