Mason City Council does its business as usual

by Matt Marquardt –

MASON CITY – The Mason City Council met Tuesday evening.

Mayor Eric Bookmyer recognized a local high school sports star.  Newman Catholic’s Gabe Dunn was recently awarded the Class A Ed Thomas award.  His parents, Rita and Tom Dunn, received an award for his achievements.

Bookmeyer proclaimed June to be “National Home Ownership Month.”

Visit Mason City’s Sue Armour gave the organization’s quarterly update.

The council approved the promotion of Mason City police officer Tiffany Creekmur to Police Sergeant.

No one spoke during the public forum nor the public input listening post.

Councilman John Lee was absent, and Councilwoman Jean Marinos phoned in from Greece; she has been absent at the last several council meetings/work sessions.

Surprise Surprise she is in Greece like we didn’t know this would happen it make me sick

Sure hope my taxpayer money isn”t paying for the phone calls from Greece!

One thing puzzled me in watching the council show the other night…why would a council member ask to withold an item or two from the “Okey-dokey” vote…and then not have any discussion when they were brought up individually. I am thinking they realized that none of the other members were going to be giving them the usual “boy your comments were right on the mark and I wanted you to know that I feel the same way” speech…and complimentry pat on the back! If the council and the city really want to go “LEAN”, why not just agree at city hall and leave the library lights off and the AC turned down?

Doggone it, I was all set with my dictionary and thesaurus, waiting for Brent Willet to take to the podium and let fly with another of his renown spiels (sp) and what happens…he’s a “no-show”! I think someone told him I was going to be in the audience…that’s OK, I still have a video copy of the last time he bedazzled us with his silver tongue…”let’s go to the tape”!

I think people called that one on Jean Marinos being in Greece for much of her session as councilwoman. It’s sorta like the George Dubya Bush phenomena…everyone knows a Bush is going to start a war, and screw everyone out of taxpayer money, but they elect them anyway.

Peter Dubya L, you defame a great American President. You need to quit smoking that pot and go back into treatment.

You probably still believe the propaganda that Bush is responsible for our horrible unemployment and bad economy.

Well you would be wrong on that too.

It’s no wonder that goofy guitar you tried to make and sell is such a dismal failure.

Get back on your medicine and quit the drugs.

Bush was a dismal failure as a president. Quit drinking the Kool aid.

So Bush didn’t start the prescription drug entitlement program, didn’t bail out wall street, didn’t go to war with Iraq all of which were big mistakes that put us farther in debt. While presidents actually have little power without congress backing them he was the cheer leader to accomplish all of these mistakes.

Bush may not have been a great president but he was so much better than the communist who is now in office and doing his best to tear down our country.
