MASON CITY – The Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre Company will present three showings of “Kate Shelley’s Train Rescue” on Thursday, April 4, in the Salsbury Room at the MacNider Art Museum at 10 am, 1 pm, and 6 pm.

All shows will be free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Doors will open for seating 15 minutes before each show. This free show is made possible by a grant from the Bertha Stebens Charitable Foundation. Masks are optional.

Kate Shelley’s Train Rescue tells the story of the Iowa teenager who, in 1881, saved the train from plunging to a watery death. Created and performed by puppeteer Stephanie Vallez, this exciting tale unfolds in the pages of two giant pop-up books peopled with paper puppets, masks, and rod marionettes and fun, low-tech special effects. It’s enhanced with Stephanie’s lovely singing voice. The story follows Kate’s life from her family’s ocean journey from Ireland through the train rescue to her adulthood.

Please call 641-421-3666 to register groups of ten or more for the daytime shows. No registration is needed for the 6 pm show. Schools are eligible for a bus subsidy while funds last.

The Museum is open to the public Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am – 8 pm; Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm; and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. It is located at 303 2nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa. More information about exhibits, programs, and events can be found at the Museum’s website at www.macniderart.org.
