ODEBOLT — A Northern Iowa train derailment blocked a rural road Monday afternoon, prompting a response from deputies and firefighters as crews worked to secure the scene.
The Sac County Sheriff’s Office said dispatchers received a call at about 4:38 p.m. on June 8, 2026, reporting a train derailment in the area of Ira Avenue and 350th Street near Odebolt.
Initial information indicated about five train cars had derailed.
No injuries were reported, and officials said no leaks from the derailed cars were found.
Sac County deputies and the Odebolt Fire Department responded immediately. Additional agencies remained on scene to continue evaluating the derailment, secure the area and allow responding crews to access the site.
At about 5:42 p.m., the Odebolt Fire Department confirmed there was no leakage from the derailed cars, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ira Avenue between 340th Street and 350th Street was declared impassable following the derailment. Authorities asked the public to avoid the area for the next few hours while crews worked at the scene.
The sheriff’s office said further information would be released later Monday evening.
No criminal wrongdoing was reported in the initial bulletin, and the cause of the derailment was not immediately released.
