Deb Scharper unanimously nominated as Democratic nominee in Iowa Senate District 26

Deb Scharper

OSAGE – On Wednesday evening, Deb Scharper of rural Osage was unanimously nominated to run for Iowa Senate District 26 as the Democratic nominee.

Deb Scharper announced her candidacy for the Iowa Senate after the March 15th filing deadline. On Wednesday, Democrats in Iowa Senate District 26 held a virtual nominating convention to fill that spot on the November ballot. Deb received unanimous support from the convention and will appear on the ballot in November.

“I am honored to receive the nomination and look forward to continuing the outreach and discussion I have had with voters across the district,” said Scharper. “We must elect leaders in the statehouse who are willing to listen to all Iowans and work to find solutions that will make our state a better place to live, work and raise a family. I have a passion for public service and for helping families and communities.”

“Deb is a great fit for this district,” said Kurt Meyer, Chair of the Mitchell County Democrats. “Her healthcare background is more important than ever as our state confronts the covid pandemic. Deb is the right person at the right time.”

An Iowa native and graduate of Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School, Scharper is a CT Technician at the Mason City Clinic. Deb is also active in the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), where she serves as an Ambassador for the State of Iowa. Her duties include building connections at the community level, speaking publicly and working with local healthcare providers,  and advocating on behalf of those with frontotemporal degeneration, which is the leading cause of dementia in people younger than 60.

Scharper is running in Senate District 26, which is comprised of Chickasaw, Floyd, Howard, Mitchell and Worth counties, as well as portions of Cerro Gordo and Winneshiek counties.

The incumbent Senator for Iowa Senate District 26 is Republican Waylon Brown of St. Ansgar, elected in 2016.

Weird the first attractive democrat I’ve seen

Ms. Scharper may be a great candidate, but Curt Meyer’s comment that she could confront the COVID pandemic because she is a CT tech. is absurd.

Man her husband has had some gorgeous wives.
