CLEAR LAKE – A backed up private sewer began discharging a small amount of untreated wastewater into a road ditch in Ventura Tuesday.
The discharge started at a private property north of East Lake Street when the sewage line plugged. Heavy rainfall in the area diluted the wastewater, but carried it through a culvert under East Lake Street into Clear Lake west of McIntosh Woods State Park.
The city applied lime to the ground and to pooled wastewater. Repairs to the private sewage line are planned for Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday, as soon as the contractor arrives.
The DNR cautions residents to keep children and pets away from the affected area for 24 to 48 hours after the repairs are made.
The DNR will continue to monitor the repairs and clean up.
