NIACC softball gives No. 4 Iowa Central problems in losses

FORT DODGE, Iowa – No. 4 Iowa Central swept NIACC for the second time in eight days, but the Trojans gave the Tritons a fight in game two during the 13-0, 9-7 sweep.

NIACC (10-20, 0-16 in the ICCAC) struggled in game one with only one hit against ICCC’s Kasie Jensen.  The defense also gave up all 13 runs in the first three innings.

NIACC found its offense in game two, as Hailey Eckstein (Fr., Larsen, WI) had a pair of doubles.  Kaylor Tiffany (Fr., Cornville, AZ) and Katie Gross (Fr., Crystal Lake, IA) both added a double as well.

NIACC had two three-run innings and led for much of game two.  The Trojans had their first three runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead.  NIACC answered an Iowa Central (39-7, 12-2 in the ICCAC) run in the bottom of the third with one in the fourth, and added three more runs in the fifth.

NIACC’s only hiccup defensively came during the fifth inning when the Triton’s scored seven runs to make it 9-7 Iowa Central.  The Tritons shut down the Trojans the rest of the way.

NIACC will travel to Cedar Rapids for the Kirkwood Tournament this weekend.  They will play College of Lake County (IL) and Mineral Area College (MO) on Saturday, and College of Lake County again and Central Community College (NE) on Sunday.
