Turkey Valley standout Tess Kuennen to play volleyball at NIACC

JACKSON JUNCTION, Iowa – Turkey Valley High School volleyball standout Tess Kuennen has signed a national letter of intent to play at NIACC starting next fall.

Kuennen, a middle hitter and defensive specialist, earned First-Team All-Upper Iowa Conference honors the past two seasons, and All-Academic Team honors in both seasons as well.

“I am very excited to be a NIACC Trojan,” Kuennen said. “I am looking forward to getting my education and being able to play a sport I love.”

In her senior season, Kuennen led TVHS in kills (184) and blocks (44), and also added 113 digs. She was named Team MVP and Team Offensive Player of the Year to end her final high school campaign.

“Tess was our go-to girl when we needed to score,” TVHS coach Tammy Vrzak said. “Not only is she a strong middle hitter, but she was our leading server with the most aces on our team. She can play back row just as well as the front row.”

Kuennen is a two-time letter winner in volleyball and a three-time letter winner in softball and basketball. Her athleticism and versatility on the court will be an asset for the Trojans, as they look to improve on a 13-29 record from last season.

“We are very happy to add Tess to our volleyball family,” NIACC volleyball head coach Chris Brandt said. “It’s always exciting to bring in good local talent, but she is an excellent role model and will bring an excellent work ethic to our team next fall.”
