Supreme Court backs Trump’s travel ban from Muslim nations

WASHINGTON– The Supreme Court today, by a 9-0 vote, has allowed the Department of Homeland Security to largely implement the President’s Executive Order of a travel ban to several Muslin countries and “take rational and necessary steps to protect our nation from persons looking to enter and potentially do harm.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says Monday that the Supreme Court order granting a partial stay of the circuit injunctions with regard to many aliens abroad restores to the Executive Branch crucial and long-held constitutional authority to defend our national borders.

The Department of Homeland Security will provide additional details on implementation after consultation with the Departments of Justice and State. DHS says implementation of the Executive Order “will be done professionally, with clear and sufficient public notice, particularly to potentially affected travelers, and in coordination with partners in the travel industry.”

Muslim countries affected by the President’s executive order include Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.   They are barred for 90 days from entering the United States.  The case will be heard officially in October.

President Trump

Statement from President Donald J. Trump:

Today’s unanimous Supreme Court decision is a clear victory for our national security.  It allows the travel suspension for the six terror-prone countries and the refugee suspension to become largely effective.

As President, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm.  I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive.

My number one responsibility as Commander in Chief is to keep the American people safe.  Today’s ruling allows me to use an important tool for protecting our Nation’s homeland.  I am also particularly gratified that the Supreme Court’s decision was 9-0.
