CEDAR RAPIDS — A northern Iowa methamphetamine dealer who fled from law enforcement through part of a college campus before officers found more than 70 grams of meth in his car has been sentenced to more than 18 years in federal prison.

Cody Richard Reisner, 42, of Decorah, was sentenced on May 18, 2026, in federal court in Cedar Rapids after previously pleading guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine after a prior conviction for a serious drug felony.

According to information disclosed at sentencing, Reisner obtained methamphetamine from a source of supply in Des Moines in February 2025 and distributed the drug to customers in the Decorah area.

Federal prosecutors said law enforcement officers tried to stop Reisner’s car on February 26, 2025, but he fled from officers. During the incident, Reisner drove through a dorm parking lot and across a grassy area of a college campus before stopping the vehicle and running away on foot.

Officers caught Reisner and arrested him. Authorities then recovered more than 70 grams of methamphetamine from his car.

Prosecutors said Reisner had three prior drug-trafficking convictions.

United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Reisner to 224 months in federal prison. Reisner must also serve eight years of supervised release after completing his prison term.

There is no parole in the federal system.

Reisner is being held in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards. The investigation was conducted by the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
