MASON CITY — Elaine Le Nore Honeck, 102, a former Mason City resident whose long life was marked by hard work, faith, family and an enduring desire to stay active, died peacefully Thursday, August 6, 2026, at StoneBridge Senior Living in Chillicothe, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 8, at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
Elaine’s final resting place will be Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, 1224 South Washington Avenue in Mason City.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chillicothe.
Elaine was born July 1, 1924, in Lincoln, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Nielsen) Koberg. She graduated from Thornton High School in 1942.
On June 18, 1949, Elaine married Robert Honeck in Hampton. The couple shared their lives together until Robert’s death in 1994.
Elaine spent many years in Mason City and became a familiar example of someone who simply enjoyed staying busy.
She worked for North Western Bell Company in Mason City as a repair clerk for 38 years. Retirement from that career did little to slow her down. Elaine went on to work another 22 years at Lundberg’s Clothing Store in Mason City, giving her an extraordinary six decades of employment between the two businesses.
Faith was also an important part of Elaine’s life. During her years in Mason City, she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Outside of work, Elaine enjoyed reading and crocheting and had a special fondness for traveling. She remained active well into the later chapters of a life that ultimately stretched beyond a century.
Most important were the people she loved.
Those carrying on Elaine’s memory include her daughter, Kathy (Leon) Burton of Chillicothe; granddaughter Sara (David) Eller of Chillicothe; and great-grandchildren Madison Eller, Bridgett Eller, Myriam Burton, Logan Burton and Porter Burton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Alfred and Mary Koberg; and grandson Mark Burton.
