MASON CITY – The Mason City Board of Education will convene at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Board Room of the School Administration Building for its regular meeting.

Among the items on the agenda, the school board will look to pursue a voter-approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).  The school board is already at this time hoping voters approve an Instructional Support Levy (ISL) on September 10th.  Both levies apply to property taxes.

The voters may authorize a voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (VPPEL) for a period not exceeding ten years and in an amount not exceeding $1.34 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. The VPPEL revenues may be used for the same purposes as the PPEL revenues. In adddition, the board may obtain loans against future VPPEL revenues and may repay that debt with interest from the VPPEL (Iowa Code section 298.2.), according to the Iowa Department Education.

Regarding the ISL, Superintendent Anita Micich will provide information on the ISL Oversight/Planning Team.

In addition, the school board will look to extend a one-year agreement for the following shared positions between the Mason City Community School District and the Clear Lake Community School District: Superintendent, Food Service and Nutrition Director and IT Director.

A salary/benefits package of a 2.5% overall increase for superintendent, district administrators, supervisors, food service managers and other miscellaneous school personnel not under bargaining units will be presented. Mrs. Micich’s salary was $177,500 in the 2011-2012 school year.

In other business, the school board will consider a recommendation that Ramona Jeffrey be appointed as Board Secretary/Treasurer and that Susan Deike be appointed as Recording Secretary for 2013-2014 and NIACOG will make a presentation.

2 tax levies– what a really bad idea!!! Do one or the other, but 2 in one year… neither will pass at this rate…

As far as Mrs. Michich getting a raise… That money is from both Mason City and Clear Lake school districts. Yes it looks like a lot of money to the average citizen — like me. But, I really believe she deserves that and more. She works year round, 2 districts, sometimes 6 days a week, early morning, until later in the evening. If you did the math on an hourly rate– you would really be amazed … You have to have a PHD, years of experience, have a really thick skin, to take all the shit, dealing with administrators, the board, teachers, students, student teachers, all other staff….
MOst of the time when people complain about people that make that much money— they are just jealous. So, that is what I chalk it up to!!

PEOPLE, GET OUT AND VOTE “NO” ON THIS ONE!!!!

The state just gave a 2% increase in spending for next year, a 4% increase the year after that, as well as a 1 time bag of money for next year! These people have lots of guts asking for more on top of that. NO WAY

Micich and other admin personnel will most likely receive the increase. The point here is that Micich is not locally vested. That is a problem! Why do these school boards keep renewing her contract? The school boards need to understand that the superintendent of the local school needs to be vested within the community, communities in this situation. Your school boards are NOT doing their jobs. The public needs to understand this. Ms. Micich needs to either invest locally or move on. Also, school boards need to make informed decisions based upon submitted DATA!!!!!! NOT submitted recommendations. DO YOUR JOB school boards! Request the information and THEN vote accordingly. DO NOT vote based upon Micich’s recommendation. ASK FOR DATA before you approve ANYTHING she recommends!!!!!

Bullshit they make enough money. Please vote NO on this. We got to stop all of these raises. “SEMPER FI”

Just vote NO.

There is no way that anyone is going to vote to approve an increase in Anita’s salary!
