$100,000 in damage reported after Iowa house fire spreads to attic, vehicle

IOWA CITY — An early-morning house fire in Iowa City caused an estimated $100,000 in damage after flames spread from the front of a home into the attic and to a vehicle parked in the driveway.

IOWA CITY — An early-morning house fire in Iowa City caused an estimated $100,000 in damage after flames spread from the front of a home into the attic and to a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The Iowa City Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched at 3:53 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, to 2055 Plaen View Drive after reports indicated the front of the house was on fire.

Firefighters arrived six minutes after being dispatched and found fire at the front of the home. Authorities said the flames had spread into the attic space and also reached a vehicle in the driveway.

The fire was brought under control 14 minutes after firefighters arrived.

Two occupants were able to safely get out of the home before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal.

The Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Iowa City Police and MidAmerican Energy.
