Charles City to hold last “official” Party in the Park for 2012

Charles City, Iowa – It’s a summer celebration at Party in the Park this week with live music by local favorite Endless Summer, free inflatable games and special activities for the whole family including airbrush tattoos, dunk tank and an Iowa versus Iowa State auction.

This week’s Party in the Park kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 10 in Charles City’s Central Park and is sponsored by: Pfizer Animal Health, Schueth Ace Hardware, Verizon-Select Communications, Central Park Dentistry, and Perry Novak Electric.

The park will be rockin’ with music by Charles City’s own recent Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Endless Summer with their mix of nostalgic hits. Special entertainment will include airbrush tattoos from 5:30-8:30 p.m. sponsored by Circle K Communications, and free inflatable games and a dunk tank fundraiser for American Cancer Society and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation sponsored by Pfizer. Kids of all ages will also enjoy a variety of carnival-style games as well as party hair styles by Blush Salon and Spa.

Plus, Hawkeye and Cyclone fans should come ready to show their team spirit and bid on two chainsaw carvings by Pat Doyle of Doyle Carving Niche in Floyd, Iowa. The Iowa sculpture carved at the first 2012 Party in the Park along with an Iowa State sculpture, will be on display in a silent auction throughout the event. Bids will close at 9 p.m.

Participants can also win a variety of prizes in a famous Chucks naming contest. Twelve mini Chucks will be scattered throughout the park for contestants to guess their famous face’s identity. Entries with all twelve correctly identified will be eligible to win a variety of Party in the Park and Charles City prizes. Winners will be announced about 8 p.m.

This event is the last official Party in the Park of the 2012 season, but be sure not to miss a special encore Party in the Park, “Mitas in the Park”, on Friday, August 17. The August 17 event will also be the last chance to use 2012 Chuck Chips.

The Party in the Park events are a function of Charles City Community Revitalization, Charles City’s Main Street Iowa program. There is no admission charge; however, food, beverages and some activities are available for purchase throughout the evening with Party in the Park’s “Chuck Chip” currency. Chuck Chips may be obtained from the “Chuck Chip Table” near the center of the park or from volunteers in red Chuck aprons stationed throughout the park during the events. Chuck Chips are also available at the Community Development Office at 401 N. Main Street, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
