Fast Facts about Traveling to Egypt

The pyramids are likely the first images that come to mind when thinking about visiting Egypt on vacation. However, while these man-made wonders are certainly worth all of the hype that they receive, there is a lot more to Egypt in terms of amazing and adventures to enjoy. If you are in the process of planning your trip, here are a few fast facts about what your Egypt vacation is likely to look like.

Egypt has Great Weather All Year Round

While most tourists and locals will tell you that the ‘best’ time to visit Egypt is from October through to April, Egypt is actually a year-round holiday destination. The weather is usually hot and packed with sunshine regardless of when you visit — great news if you are keen to escape the chilly temperatures back at home! Remember, if you want to save money on your travel costs, steer clear of booking your vacation in December and January as this is peak holiday season.

Egypt is a Popular Location Choice for Solo Travel

Unlike other countries within the African continent, Egypt is known for being a relatively safe location for solo travel. Having said that, it is still important to conduct research about how to avoid falling victim to crime, what to do if something goes wrong, and which emergency numbers to call if you need assistance. If you are a female solo traveler, it is also essential that you remain sensitive to the local customs, particularly when it comes to how you dress.

There are Countless ‘Musts’ to Add to Your Itinerary

Along with the pyramids, other ‘musts’ to add to your itinerary include:

  • The Great Sphinx of Giza: like the pyramids, this monolithic monument from ancient Egypt is another easily recognizable sight from Egypt that tends to decorate the front page of brochures for all-inclusive Egypt vacation packages.
  • The Valley of Kings: this valley can be found on the western banks of the Nile River and is home to rock cut tombs in which pharaohs and nobles were laid to rest many, many years ago.
  • The Egyptian Museum: history buffs will love walking through this incredible museum which provides a close up look into over 5,000 years of Egyptian history.
  • Karnak Temple Complex: this complex is where you will find some truly stunning temple ruins and plenty of photo opportunities.
  • Luxor Temple: the Luxor Temple has been estimated to have been built in 1400 BCE. This infamous place of worship can be found on the eastern banks of the Nile River in Luxor.

Tipping is Important in Egypt

The local Egyptians take tipping seriously, so don’t forget to give anybody who provides you with great service between 10% and 15% of the total fee. You will be thanked with a massive smile!

Now is a wonderful time to start planning your vacation to Egypt. It is certain to be a getaway to remember. There is little doubt that you will soon be back for more African adventures in the near future.
