MASON CITY – It was a costly night out for a Mason City who decided to drive drunk and was then caught and prosecuted.
A Cerro Gordo county deputy stopped a suspicious vehicle at 1:38 AM Monday morning, June 6, 2016 near Spruce Avenue and 220th Street in rural Cerro Gordo county. Inside the car behind the wheel was 29-year-old Brandyn Marcus Schade of Mason City, a twice-convicted drunk driver.
After an investigation at the scene, Schade was arrested for third-offesne operating while intoxicated, driving under suspension, and no SR-22 insurance.
Schade entered a guilty plea in November to felony third-offense operating while intoxicated. The other charges were dismissed. He was given a suspended 5-year prison sentence and 5 years of prison. He must also pay $9,615.75 in fines and court costs and fees. He is currently in the Cerro Gordo jail service his sentence.
Schade was guilty of second-offense operating while under the influence this past September. He had been arrested by Cerro Gordo deputies.
He will never pay those fines. Now we will have another unlicensed driver without insurance on our roads. These laws are not working. We need to come up with something else. It is all about the money with these judges.
