Two children hurt when Mason City woman driver rear-ends car stopped at stop sign

CLEAR LAKE – This Mason City woman driver allegedly plowed right into the back of this vehicle stopped at a rural stop sign, and two kids had to pay the price.

On November 23, 2025, at approximately 4:29 PM, Cerro Gordo county deputies where dispatched to 310th Street and Eagle Avenue for a two-car collision with possible injuries. A silver 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Japre Lydarryl Demond Hall of Mason City was stopped at the stop sign when a white 2008 Chevrolet AVEO/LS driven by Dayona Johnson of Mason City rear ended the Jeep, causing both air bags to be deployed. The drivers of both vehicles sustained minor injuries and did not seek medical attention. The passenger of the Jeep Grand Cherokee did sustain minor injuries and was transported by Clear Lake Fire Department to MercyOne. The passenger of the Aveo also was transported by Clear Lake Fire Department to MercyOne for minor injuries.

Both injured passenger are minors.

The accident is still under investigation, the sheriff’s office says.

Records show a Dayona Johnson was charged by Mason City police with operating while intoxicated on January 18, 2025, and was later guilty in a plea deal, which resulted in 2 days in jail and a bill to Iowa courts for $1818.75.
