Mason City’s vocal music instructor Reineke selected to conduct Iowa Opus Honor Choir Ensemble

Ernest Reineke Opus Bio PictureMASON CITY – Mason City Community School District Vocal Music Instructor Ernest Reineke has been selected to be one of the conductors of the Iowa Opus Honor Choir Festival on Thursday, November 19 beginning at 4 p.m. in Ames at CY Stephens Auditorium.

Ernest Reineke has been a choral director for 27 years, the last fifteen in the Mason City Community Schools. At Lincoln Intermediate, Ernest is in charge of twenty sections of general music and co- directs four fifth grade choirs, and directs two sixth grade choirs. A 1988 graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music Education. In 1996, he was the first to receive his Master of Music degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa from the Master of Music distance learning program primarily taught through the Iowa Communications Network (ICN).

Ernest has served the Iowa Choral Directors Association in many capacities. He has been a piano accompanist since 1993, was a co-creator of the North Central Iowa 7-12 Choral Festival, established the 5-6 honor choir festival, served on the executive board as a North Central District Representative, and commissioned new honor choir festival music two years in a row.

His students have performed in the Iowa All-State Choir, Iowa Opus Honor Choir, and the Iowa State Capitol. As a middle school teacher, his choir was one of two selected to perform at the three state Middle Level Educators Convention held in Ames. He also supervises student teachers from Wartburg College, Luther College, Waldorf College and the University of Northern Iowa.

The Iowa Opus Honor Choir is the “All-State” choir for several groups. Mr. Reineke will be conducting the 5th-6th grade Opus Honor Choir. In addition, there will be a 7th-8th Boys Choir, a 7th-8th Girls Choir and a 9th grade mixed choir at the event. Reineke states, “This is a huge honor to be chosen by a committee of my peers to conduct this ensemble.”
