DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced that a turkey farm that was infected with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has started restocking their barn with birds. The farm completed the cleaning and disinfection process and has negative environmental tests.
A press conference will be held at the farm near Manson next Monday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. The farm is owned and operated by the Brad Moline family and is located at 1640 Shelby Ave., Manson. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, Dr. Jack Shere from USDA APHIS, Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Mark Schouten, farm owner Brad Moline and the Iowa Turkey Federation will participate in the press conference.
The farm, identified as Calhoun 1, was confirmed to have HPAI on May 19. This farm has 6 barns that hold 28,800 brooder poults (0 to 5 weeks of age) and 14,400 finisher turkeys (5 weeks to 20 weeks of age). Repopulation took place on Friday, July 31, 2015.
