NIT – Kentucky Senator Rand Paul announced today he is running for president.

“I am running for president to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government,” Paul said on his website. “Rand Paul has been fighting big government his entire adult life,” his website claimed. “He is running for president to restore liberty and prosperity for ourselves and for future generations.”

Paul is known as a staunch conservative. He is the son of Ron Paul, a former presidential candidate, himself, and a former Republican representative from Texas.

Some of his political beliefs include:

– Term limits
– Cut spending in all areas
– A 17% flat tax for individuals and businesses
– Audit the Federal Reserve
– and more issues

Later Tuesday, Paul elaborated on on his reasons for beginning his candidacy, saying he is “running for President of the United States of America because I want to defeat the Washington machine.

“Our country is run by and for the special interests, and the career politicians in both parties let it happen.

“We look around and see the same old, tired career politicians from yester year running. Hillary Clinton? We know how that movie ends… trillions more in debt, more taxes, and more Benghazi’s. Radical Islam thrived and grew while Hillary was on the top floor of the state department. Now she wants a promotion?

“The elites that run the Washington machine at our expense will throw everything against us.”

Paul joins Texas Senator Ted Cruz as Republican candidates for president.
