MASON CITY – After a request for more information, police divulged more detail on the condition of a dog found dead in a Mason City home at the hands of a man who took a plea deal in the crime leading to its death.
NIT readers asked for more information as to the condition of Kiara, a dog found stuffed in a dog food sack inside a garage where 27-year-old Dacota Witham lived. Witham was initially charged with animal torture, but took a plea deal of animal neglect causing death. Some said that the dog had been tortured and mutilated.
According to Mason City police, they did not request an autopsy on the dog.
However, police did say that “the dog had been dead for a while and had begun decomposing when officers located the dog in the garage. The dog’s muzzle was wrapped shut with heavy tape and there was a lot of blood in the garage, apparently from the dog before it died and was moved to its final location [inside the dog food sack].”
Police disclosed that “Witham was reported to be with the dog in the garage alone when the dog began yelping. That’s the last time the dog was seen or heard alive.”
Witham is now in the Beje Clark halfway house.

I agree, this guy should not be rotated back into society yet. Beje Clark is far too soon. He possibly tortured an animal in a very heinous manner, which is indicative of serial killer behavior. He should be in prison for animal torture for at least 5 years true time, and then sent to Cherokee for continued psychiatric evaluation and treatment. At this point the ENTIRE JUSTICE SYSTEM needs complete purging, and overhaul. Everyone should be fired, and entire new crop brought in

Judge Annette Boehlje handed down this sentence. Her name will be on your next election ballot for retention. Vote! County Attorney Rachel Ginbey represented us, the people, in this case. These are the names we should be focusing on. The pictures of the judge and the county attorney that had a hand in making and facilitating these “deals” should be posted right along side the criminal’s.

I voted to NOT RETAIN all the judges. I don’t believe in this criminal justice system in its entirety and we need an ENTIRE NEW GROUP OF police, county attornies, judges etc etc…in not only Cerro Gordo County, but Franklin and many others. Yes, there are exceptions, but some initial heads need to come off so the underlings in the organizations can have a chance to declare themselves. Judges, attorneys and police who fit in with the 21st Century NEW PARADIGM are welcome to remain.

I agree! If I would of known I had the chance awhile ago when the story first came out but I was afraid Id go to jail. Now that I know charges wont be filed on me, NOW WHAT DACOTA?

Keep in mind he admitted to feeding it an antifreeze laced steak. Antifreeze poisoning is a horrible thing for an animal to go thru.
