ACKLEY, IOWA – A Black Lives Matter protester is claiming that an SUV carrying Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds intentionally struck him on Tuesday.
Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg visited Family Traditions Meat at
405 Sherman Avenue in Ackley, Iowa, Tuesday morning around 10:00 a.m. Protesters with Black Lives Matter showed up at the location. As Reynolds was leaving, allegedly, a protester got in front of the gray Suburban SUV carrying Reynolds and intentionally blocked the vehicle. The vehicle, operated by a state patrol employee, allegedly struck or made contact with the protester, now known as Jaylen Cavil of Kansas.
The Iowa State Patrol released a statement on the incident:
“Today, the Iowa State Patrol investigated an incident that occurred near Ackley, Iowa, involving a demonstrator and a state-owned vehicle transporting Governor Reynolds. The vehicle was operated by a member of the Iowa State Patrol. As the vehicle started to leave a scheduled stop and enter the roadway, a demonstrator approached which caused the Governor’s vehicle to slow. The demonstrator stopped short and to the side of the vehicle. As the vehicle began to turn away from the protestor and onto the roadway, the demonstrator intentionally stepped in front of the slowly moving vehicle. The demonstrator had little to no physical reaction to any contact he created and the vehicle then entered the roadway. Iowa State Troopers on scene made contact with the demonstrator and advised him to discontinue his efforts to block traffic. The demonstrator did not appear to suffer any injury, made no request for medical attention, and immediately began shouting obscenities at the responding personnel. The demonstrator and his group then proceeded to block members of the Iowa State Patrol from leaving the area.”
The backlash has been furious on social media against Reynolds, however.
Cavil has posted to Twitter, “Kim Reynolds driver hit me with her car, lmao. I got hit by Kim Reynolds car. Today was ROUGH. Let’s not forget that the reason me & my fellow activists were trying to speak to the governor today is because Kim still refuses to do any work on an EO to restore voting rights. Me getting hit by her car will not stop this movement. We demand justice.”
Cavil did not respond to questions Wednesday, when asked about the incident.

If you come upon a large protest in the street, and a protester intentionally, steps in front of your car to stop you, and prevents you from going about your daily life, you should assume violence will soon follow.

Just to try and help you understand; “she” (Governor Reynolds) did not “pass” anything. She might have signed a bill which became law. The Iowa House and Senate pass bills, the Governor signs them (or not) and then they can become law.
