MASON CITY – Late Sunday night, two Mason City men were caught by police trespassing at a local business and stealing scrap metal.
According to Mason City police, shortly after 11:30 AM, officers were sent to check on two subjects pulling a wagon down an alley on the southeast part of town. A short while later, one of the officers spotted two male subjects on the property of Miller’s Transmission loading scrap metal into the wagon.
The officer made contact with the two males who were identified as Mario Martinez (49) and Tommy Askildson (21) both of Mason City. Martinez was initially arrested on a Hancock arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance. In the meantime, the officers conducted an investigation and learned that Martinez and Askildson had stolen over 500 pounds of scrap aluminum from the property of Miller’s Transmission throughout the night.
In addition to the arrest warrant, Martinez was charged with criminal trespass and an enhanced charge of theft in the third degree. Martinez is currently being held on a $2,000 bond at the Cerro Gordo County Jail. Askildson was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and theft in the fourth degree. Askildson is currently being held on a $1,000 bond at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
Maybe they should have their own TV sitcom called two broke guys.
