PALO ALTO COUNTY – A Northern Iowa motorcyclist was seriously hurt in an accident, then given ticket.
On Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 11:31 am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motorcycle accident in the 5300 block of 390th Street. Following an investigation into the accident, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that 21-year-old Braxton Long of Emmetsburg was driving a 2003 Honda VTX1800 eastbound in the 5300 block of 390th Street. Long attempted to pass the vehicle ahead of him but, due to weather and road conditions, Long lost traction of the roadway and slid into the south ditch. After entering the south ditch, Long and his motorcycle collided with a directional warning sign before coming to rest in the south ditch.
Long sustained serious injuries during the accident and was transported by EMS to the Palo Alto County Hospital. Following the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office cited Braxton Long with failure to reduce speed to a reasonable and proper rate, which is a simple misdemeanor.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Palo Alto County Hospital and the Cylinder Fire Department.
