FORT DODGE – A teen was shot in Fort Dodge, and police are seeking the shooter.
On Sunday, May 29 at approximately 10:50 P.M., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received multiple calls reporting shots fired near the area of 6th Avenue North and North 22nd Street. Information provided at the time indicated there were possibly five to ten shots fired.
When officers arrived on scene, a vehicle was stopped leaving the area. At that time a male occupant exited the vehicle informing officers that he has just been shot. Officers tended to the victim while others began canvassing the area. Medics with the Fort Dodge Fire Department provided medical treatment on scene before transporting the victim, identified as a 16‐year‐old male, to Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center. The juvenile male was later Life Flighted to a Des Moines area hospital for further treatment. The last update provided was that the male was in stable condition.
Officers spoke with several witnesses in the area and Determined that the male was struck outside of 613 North 22nd Street. Evidence was collected indicating multiple shots were fired. No additional injuries were reported. Police believe this is an isolated incident and not a random act.
The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area around that time is strongly encouraged to contact police. Video evidence is extremely valuable in these cases, police said, and they encourage those that have surveillance systems in the area to please review around this timeframe and contact police if you see anything suspicious.
