CHARLES CITY – Charles City police investigated the theft of packages from porches, leading to the arrest of a local man.

Charles City police said today that on Thursday, at about 3:45 pm, the officers executed a search warrant in the 1700 block of Clark Street regarding thefts of packages from porches in town. As a result of this investigation, 46-year-old James Lavigne of Charles City was arrested and charged with two counts of fifth degree theft that took place on December 8 and 9.  Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Lavigne remains jailed in Floyd county.  In September, Lavigne was found guilty of third-degree theft in Cerro Gordo county, after the charge was brought by Mason City police on September 7.  He was sentenced to 7 days in jail and $200 in court costs.  A fine of $855 was suspended.  In 2020, Lavigne was guilty of meth possession in Floyd county, and ordered to pay $623.59 in court fees, costs and fines, plus ordered to serve 2 days in jail.
