MASON CITY – A wanted Mason City man fled a traffic stop in a stolen GMC Acadia, and was finally caught using stop sticks deployed by police.
On December 9, 2021 at about 10:47pm, a Cerro Gordo county deputy attempted to make a traffic stop near the intersection of 4th Street NE and North Carolina Ave in Mason City for speeding. The driver of the GMC Acadia fled from the Deputy and a vehicle pursuit started. Iowa State Patrol and Mason City Police assisted deputies with a pursuit through the Southeast and Northeast sides of Mason City. The driver was identified very quickly after the initial attempt to stop as Landon Gabriel Martin, age 30 of Mason City. Martin was wanted since June for a parole violation warrant out of Cerro Gordo County, plus another warrant for fail to appear for trespassing.
During the pursuit, stop sticks were used by a Mason City police officer, which deflated three of the tires on Martin’s vehicle. After a pursuit that lasted about 12 minutes, deputies were able to block Martin in the 900 block of 16th Street NE and stop the pursuit. Martin was arrested without further incident. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were damaged.
After the pursuit ended, the vehicle was reported stolen from a residence in Mason City.
Martin is being charged by the Sheriffs Office with eluding and speeding, and by Mason City police with operation without owner’s consent.
Martin is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
