Dangerous Mason City man released from jail

MASON CITY – A Mason City man arrested for domestic abuse assault that allegedly involved strangulation was released from jail Monday.

Bryon Sletten has reportedly struck a deal with Cerro Gordo county prosecutors and was released on his own recognizance Monday. NIT is told that Sletton has agreed to plead guilty to second offense domestic assault in exchange for time served in jail. Jail Administrator Shad Stoeffler told NIT that Sletten had been in jail since May 14.

Court records show that on Monday, August 18, a charge of domestic abuse involving strangulation – a felony, but Sletton was charged only with an aggravated misdemeanor – was dismissed by judge Karen Salic. During Monday’s plea hearing, Sletten was scheduled for an August 25 court date for sentencing on a second charge of second offense domestic abuse assault.

After the alleged domestic assault incident, perpetrated against a Mason City woman, sources told NIT that Sletton’s victim suffered “swelling in neck muscle, bruising various places on body (shoulder, elbow, knees, forearms), muscle tear of previous surgical incision in chest.” The source also said that when the victim called her regular physician, “they directed (her) to the ER.”

Sletten’s record includes convictions due to felony criminal mischief, drug possession, harassment, assault, domestic assault, operating while intoxicated, driving while barred, theft, numerous probation violations and more.
