Iowa man who burglarized woman’s house and assaulted her is wanted by police

CLERMONT, IA – Police are looking for an Iowa man who went to a woman’s house Monday evening, broke in and left a resident seriously injured.

Authorities reported that on May 11 at about 9:30 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress in the town of Clermont. Once deputies arrived, they discovered that Mathew Daniel Durnan, age 41 of Clermont, had broken into a female’s residence and assaulted her. Durnan broke open the door, assaulted the victim causing serious injury and fled from the scene as once deputies were en route. The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries and Durnan was not located.

Wednesday morning, a warrant for the arrest of Durnan was issued for burglary in the first degree, a class “B” felony; domestic abuse causing serious injury, a serious misdemeanor; and violation of a no contact order, a simple misdemeanor. If convicted, Durnan could face up to 28 years in prison.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding Durnan. He should be considered dangerous and if anyone sees or knows his located are asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 563-422-6067 Ext 0 or call 911 and report it to local authorities.
