WATERLOO – A chase involving a helmet-less man on a motorcycle who fled police had a fatal ending Sunday.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a motorcycle near the Crossroads Shopping center at about noon Sunday after the driver, 30-year-old Jon Winburn, neglected to stop at a stop sign.
Winburn then attempted to elude the trooper and lost control of his 2007 motorcycle and struck a cement wall at the Mutual Wheel Company at 2277 LaPorte Road. Winburn, who was wearing no helmet, sustained fatal injuries. He was transported by Waterloo Fire Rescue to Covenant Hospital.
On May 26, 2011, Winburn was arrested for eluding in Marshall county.
