MASON CITY – Jodi Draper officially became a candidate Thursday for the Second Ward City Council seat.
Travis Hickey is the incumbent and has indicated that he intends to run for re-election but has not filed officially as of yet.

Nancy, if you want to vote for Hickey, that’s fine. But it’s very immature and wrong of you to blast everyone on here that is in support of Jodi. And YES Jodi is getting my vote. She’s up to date on the issues in the community, well educated, and actually cares about everyone in Mason City and not just a select few. We need some change at the table. What I find amazing is that Jodi’s campaigning on a positive campaign and Mary Beth Greenan is her campaign manager is on here blogging as Goober blasting everyone one from Bookmeyer, Hickey, Solberg, Tornquist, Carl Miller, and even Larry Lockle. So Mary Beth who do you like besides Jodi? Jodi you may want to watch out before she turns on you. So much for a positive campaign.

People have a right to vote for whomever without retaliation from this site. But it is what it is. Why the name calling and bashing if you disagree? Freedom of choice so let it be. I could care less who everyone votes for but this site promotes negativity and bashing if they don’t agree with Matt. Ban people from the site or delete comments. How can this site claim to be fair and open? No way. That’s why it has the reputation of being a “rag”.

This is exciting news!! Have been waiting for her to file the papers and make it official. From what I hear, the people she has talked to in her ward are really impressed. They say she is like a breath of fresh air. Honest, bright, articulate and has a great knowledge of the issues.

You really can’t win on here, when I was blogging under my name when Jodi first announced, I was blasted at every turn for commenting and promoting her candidacy.
Since you now know and will always know who I am no matter what name I choose, I would like to think that I could expect some decency and respect confidentiality.

If you don’t agree with Matt, he calls you out as “hiding” behind the screen. I know for a fact that he has banned people from his site and we all know he deletes posts that he doesn’t like and doesn’t want others to see. So I don’t see much beauty on this site other than for entertainment!! And look at the caliber of most bloggers. Always good for a laugh!!
@Mary Beth Greenan-You just keep hanging in there and do not pay any attention to the haters. They are always out there but their opinions mean nothing. You have a right to voice your opinion and I support you in this case. My wife and I met with Jdi and found her to be a very intelligent and caring person who want to do good for all of the people, not just the elite as Hickey and this Nancy who is probably one of the mayor and Hickey’s stooges.

Really… you must have a very small circle of friends, be a friend of Bookmeyer or John Rowe or be a staunch republican. I supported Hickey last time, and we had great discussions about his vision for the community. He has veered so far of course since his surgery for attachment at the hip with Bookmeyer.
I know we have to keep Bookie — but I think u will be surprised at the Council seat outcomes. Jodi will win 2nd ward. Matt will win Ward 4 and Leonard will win at-large.
I have heard that there are 2 potential Mayoral candidates still out there. One of them is somewhat credible…
