MASON CITY – Gamers converged on the Clarion Inn in Mason City on the weekend of July 12th to July 14th for the MEG-CON gaming event.
MEG-CON is a bring-your-own-computer/console (BYOC) gaming event with competitive tournaments to be held every year in Mason City. The event, which is named after the organization “Midwest Electronic Gaming”, is planned to accommodate hundreds of gamers from all over the Midwest to celebrate the organization’s gaming dynasty. Organizers planned MEG-CON to be North Iowa’s largest LAN Party.
At this year’s event, there were people from all over the Midwest. License plates from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois.
“This is the first year of making this an annual event,” said Chad Brunsvold, Staff Member of MEG-CON.
You could feel the intensity of the players and the excitement of the people watching the games all through the room. They were consumed in the games being played on the big screen and on each players computer.
Games that were slated for this year’s competitive tournaments included popular games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2(Xbox 360), Halo 4(Xbox 360), StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm(PC), and League of Legends(PC).
MEG-CON organizers plan the vent to be a venue to showcase the newest games and hardware being developed by companies residing in the Midwest region including booths selling clothing, computer peripherals, and software.
The MEG-CON Production Team includes the Iowa LAN League, FRAGfinity, Iowa Gamers Online, Ia_Clan Gaming, JtechTV, Heartland eSports Association, and Kitty McScratch.
