(Op-ed by Peter Children)
Try this on for size; after the first of the year after the city fails to find an experienced attorney to replace Meyer, Bookmeyer will have the fourth vote at the table or more….who knows. By Meyer resigning now could be a move to take some of the heat off the mayor’s previous plans and allow a cooling off period until the council table is realigned to his needs.
He could hire Meyer back as Assistant City Administrator and City Attorney; Meyer’s sojourn at the County Attorney’s office, at this point that is merely a rumor, but it could have been easily arranged as a parking place for him until the new council is seated.
Remember it is only 120 days until the first of the year, in political terms that is just a skip and a hop. Then there is this to consider; it could be Meyer suspects trouble over the HD deal and wants to jump ship now.
Only the voters of this city will be able to restore stability to this community, and that cannot be done by sitting in your L-Boy and drinking beer and watching ball games. When election day comes, go to the polling place and vote, and take your neighbor.|
