From the Mason City Fire Department:
Mason City ñ August 23, 2011 – The Mason City Fire Department responded to a house fire Sunday Aug 21. Fire was reported to 911 by a passer-by who noticed smoke coming from the back of the residence at 1502 S. Pennsylvania Ave. The same passer-by also knocked on the door to the home to alert the resident, Cindy Osier, who was still in the home unaware of the fire. Ms. Osier exited the building safely.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and performed a search of the residence where Ms. Osier’s two cats were safely removed from the structure. The fire was determined to have originated on the back deck of the residence and spread from there to the home itself. The home sustained significant damage to the area adjacent to the deck, the roof, and attic. Firefighters were on scene approximately two and a half hours.
