MASON CITY, I.A., August 8, 2011 ñ The Mason City Walmart has just announced they will be partnering with United Way of North Central Iowa to hold their first ever Stuff the Bus Event. From Thursday, August 11 until Sunday, August 14, look for a school bus in the Mason City Walmart’s parking lot at 4151 4th Street SW. They will be collecting necessities like deodorant, socks, basic t-shirts, gym-shorts, body soap, shampoo and conditioner, etc. All items will be distributed at the 2011 United Way Head-To-Toe Kickoff Event on Thursday, August 18 from 4 p.m. ñ 7 p.m. at Music Man Square.
“We wanted to provide a service that wasn’t already being done.” Says Doug Hank, Shift Manager of the Mason City Walmart. “There are already some great programs in place that connect kids with school supplies, we are going to try to help families with some of the other challenges they face. From a child’s perspective, starting off the school year on a level playing field with his or her peers can certainly set the stage for the rest of the year. United Way’s Shoe Drive definitely aligned with our goal in preparing local kids for school and we wanted to do our part to help.”
Walmart has also donated $1500 in shoes to the United Way of North Central Iowa Shoe Drive. Interested donors can “stuff the bus” at the Mason City Walmart location between Thursday, August 11 and Sunday, August 14. People who are interested in redeeming the materials should attend the United Way Head to Toe Kickoff Event on Thursday, August 18 at Music Man Square in Mason City from 4 p.m. ñ 7 p.m. The United Way Head to Toe Kickoff Event will be comprised of a campaign kick-off program at 3:15 p.m., and be followed by the Head to Toe Event from 4 p.m. ñ 7 p.m. The public is invited to both events.
