MASON CITY – Several readers asked about the fire trucks and ambulances at Big Blue on Friday.

This was a routine training exercise that the Mason City Fire Department and emergency responders were completing.  They had jet skis and and motorized boats out on the water, staying sharp on how to deal with a possible drowning or other emergency.

“There are three shifts, and all of us come out about twice a year to get familiar with equipment.  It’s training for the real thing,” one fire department employee said.  He said the training would last about to hours, then they would be back to the station.

Thanks for helping me get my daily moob fix. The Fire Department needs to make sure thesafety equipment is sized appropriately. A bigger officer needs a bigger flotation vest. Seriously, the tall guy toward the back needs appropriately sized equipment.

That appears to be a high flotation vest, safety personel use them so they have more freedom of movement. They are not like the ones you get from a local store, designed with more foltation in a smaller package.

Just remember, that “Tall Guy” that your referring to just might be the guy who holds your hand while useing the ‘Jaws Of Life’ trying to free you from a possible car accident/or taking your last breathe. That tall guy just might be the one who rescues your ignorant @SS from a burning building!
